In the early 2000’s, like maybe 2000, I met Jeff NG, aka Jeff Staple, for the first time. Staple Design was a lower east side NYC Tee shirt brand with roots in hip-hop, downtown street vernacular, and in a witty tone that almost made it too smart for cool. But, I was attached and began what has become a two-decade friendship and creative partnership journey. The first project we worked on was the Navigation Pack, a collection based on the journey sneakerheads used to go through to get the best sneakers, they would travel the world. So we looked at the 3 mecca’s for kicks; London, Tokyo, and of course New York. Fast forward to present day, and the storytelling hasn’t slowed down, the most recent project was the Black Pigeon. As Jeff and I often joke about, a casual brunch somewhere in the lower Eastside is usually the way these projects get started.
